Summer Solstice — also known as the first day of summer — has arrived! Summer in Texas is that magical time of year when barbecues and beach trips reign, when work slows and summer holidays mean getting together with friends and family. Just thinking about it likely brings up the smell of fresh cut grass and the taste of cold lemonade.

With the current events happening around the country, we wanted to provide a list of new ways to make your summer in Dallas special this year:

Virtual Summer Camps

The Dallas Mavericks are hosting virtual basketball, dance and esports camps this summer as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. Children between 7 and 18 years old can participate in the Mavs Academy summer camps through virtual sessions.  The basketball camp teaches fundamentals and sportsmanship and dance camps will help dancers improve their techniques. Plan a Staycation

While Covid-19 has slowed out-of-state travel, why not relax and cool off with a staycation in the city? Several local hotels are offering amazing specials to Texas residents. Picture yourself sipping on complimentary drinks at your poolside cabana. Virgin Hotels, The Adolphus and Hotel ZaZa are just a few to check out!

Farmers Market

By now you are probably more concerned than ever with staying healthy and feeding your body the nutrients it needs to perform at its best. Each Saturday, including July 4th, the farmers markets in Dallas will be open. You can stock your cabinets and celebrations with local fruits, veggies and meats.

Each market has a COVID-19 protocol, including widely spaced booths, social distancing, extra sanitation and washing stations ― and, at the least, encouragement to wear a face mask.

Enjoy a Frozen Treat

If you’re reading this on June 20th, the official start to summer, your local Dairy Queen is celebrating today by giving away free cones (with any purchase) all day long!

It’s the longest day of the year. Enjoy!
